Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which approved the release of Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ on December 5, has unwittingly revealed the plot of the film while rejecting any resemblance with the life of Ashoka Chakra awardee Late Major Mohit Sharma.

Ranveer’s most-awaited film, ‘Dhurandhar’, is set against the backdrop of the IC-814 hijacking in 1999 and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, revealed the CBFC certificate which has now gone viral on social media.

“Set against the backdrop of the IC-814 hijacking in 1999 and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the film follows India’s Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, who crafts a daring and indomitable mission to infiltrate and dismantle a powerful terrorist network operating out of Pakistan. To execute this high-risk operation, Sanyal recruits an unlikely asset – a 20-year-old boy from Punjab, held captive for committing a revenge-driven crime. Recognising the boy’s potential and raw intensity, Sanyal decides to mould him into a weapon capable of penetrating Karachi’s ruthless underworld mafia,” describes the viral certificate.

‘Dhurandhar’ has been cleared for release with an ‘A’ certificate and a runtime of 3 hours, 34 minutes.

A controversy had erupted after the trailer launch with the internet, drawing comparisons between Ranveer’s character in the film and late Major Mohit Sharma’s life. The social media buzz then led Major Sharma’s parents to file a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the film and its promotional activities. However, the court disposed of the petition, while directing CBFC to consult the Indian Army if needed.

Following which, CBFC undertook a fresh examination of the film and found no link to Major Mohit Sharma.

A four-minute post-credits scene has been included in the film, revealing a trailer for Dhurandhar Part 2 continuing the story from where the first film ends.

According to reports, ‘Dhurandhar’ will be released in two installments. The first installment will hit theatres on December 5, whereas the second installment will be released in the first half of 2026. “There have been reports that Dhurandhar is a two-part saga. Hence, the film, which will be released on December 5, will be the first installment. It’ll end at a decisive point and the story will then continue in the second part,” a source was quoted as saying by Bollywood Hungama.

Besides Ranveer, ‘Dhurandhar’ also stars Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, and R Madhavan in pivotal roles.
