Bhawanipatna: A Plus II second-year student was hospitalised after he fell from the second floor of the hostel building of a private college under the Town Police limits at Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district late on Sunday.

According to the victim’s mother, he was being tortured by nine of his classmates and they had rushed to the hostel on Sunday after coming across a video of him being ragged on social media. They allegedly thrashed him again that night for complaining about the incident to his parent. “He is saying that they then pushed him off the building,” his mother told the media.

Some reports suggest that he jumped off the building after they threatened to kill him by brandishing a knife.

He was rescued by the college authorities and rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.

The family has lodged a complaint with Town police, which have initiated an investigation into the matter.
