New Delhi: A total of Rs 3,100 crore from Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations or PM CARES Fund have been allocated to fight the coronavirus crisis.
According to PM Office, Rs 2,000 crore of the total amount will be used for purchasing ventilators, Rs 1,000 crore for migrants care and Rs 100 crore will be locked to support vaccine development.
The government is planning to get 50,000 units of ventilators manufactured from domestic companies. Accordingly, these will be distributed to the government-run COVID-19 hospitals in the states based on the requirement.
Notably, the migrants care fund of Rs 1,000 crore will be provided to the states/UTs and the District Collectors or Municipal Commissioners will be given the responsibility to allocate that accordingly.
“State/UT-wise funds will be released on the weightage of (a) Population of the State/UT as per 2011 Census – 50%, weightage (b) Number of positive COVID-19 cases as on date – 40% weightage and (c) Equal share (10% weightage) for all states/UTs to ensure basic minimum sum for all states,” the government statement said.
Moreover, the government’s Principal Scientific Advisor will take decisions on the disposal of funds related to vaccine development, including research work by institutions, startups and the pharmaceutical industry, the statement added.
