PM Modi At DGP-IGP Meet In Odisha Capital On Day-2, To Discuss Roadmap To Meet Security Challenges

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated the 59th DGP-IGP conference which entered the second day on Saturday amid tight security in Odisha capital.

The three-day event, which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shan on Friday, is now being chaired by the Prime Minister at the Convention Centre of Lok Sabha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. The PM had arrived in Bhubaneswar on Friday afternoon to a rousing welcome.

Sources said Modi reached the venue around 8.25 am and the deliberations began at 8.30 am. Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval are apso present at the meeting on the second day.

The PM is likely to highlight security challenges before the country as the meeting is set to discuss critical components of national security, including Counter Terrorism, Left Wing Extremism, Coastal Security, New Criminal Laws, Narcotics among others.

The three-day conference, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, brings together Directors General of Police (DGPs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) from across India. Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Intelligence Bureau, and Central Armed Police Forces are also attending the conference.

Key discussion points include terrorism, left-wing extremism, cyber security, refugee issues, narcotics control, women’s safety, law and order management, and new crime laws.

The conference features thematic dining table sessions, business sessions, breakout sessions, and blueprint preparation to leverage technology in crime prevention and investigation. To facilitate in-depth discussions, 12 working groups have been formed to focus on specific topics and present their findings and recommendations.

Senior police officials will present their valuable opinions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on internal security and law enforcement issues, including maintaining law and order during emergency situations. This platform allows them to share their insights and experiences, facilitating collaborative efforts to address emerging security challenges, sources said.

Extensive security arrangements have been made by the police to make the event successful and prevent any untoward incident. Security has been beefed up across the city including Raj Bhavan, Secretariat, state guest house, IPS mess and travel routes designated for VVIPs and other senior officials. As part of the security net, Central Reserve Police Force and Odisha Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel have been pressed into service in the capital city. The conference venue and surrounding areas have been sanitized, with multiple layers of security in place.

Modi’s presence is expected to provide valuable insights and guidance to the country’s top police officials. The conference aims to foster collaboration, share best practices, and develop strategies to address emerging security challenges, the sources added.
