New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a crucial meeting to review the situation related to petroleum, crude, gas, power and fertiliser amid the conflict in West Asia triggered by the US-Iran war which has entered its fourth week.
The high-level meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, was attended by senior members of his Union cabinet, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Health Minister JP Nadda, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The meeting focused on ensuring uninterrupted supply, stable logistics and efficient distribution of essential resources across the country.
The Union government has assured the people that it is taking proactive steps to safeguard energy security and maintain adequate availability amid the evolving situation in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz closure.
States and Union territories have been directed to keep a strict eye on LPG hoarding and black marketing, as well as facilitate new PNG connections for domestic and commercial consumers.
Commercial LPG allocation to states and UTs has been increased, with the priority being educational institutions and hospitals.
Shipping Ministry Special Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sinha said at an inter-ministerial briefing that all 22 Indian ships and 611 sailors in the Persian Gulf region are safe.
