Cairo: One more feather was added to Narendra Modi’s cap when he was conferred the ‘Order of the Nile’ award here on Sunday.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi presented the Indian Prime Minister Egypt’s highest state honour ahead of their bilateral meeting.
The ‘Order of the Nile’ is a pure gold collar consisting of three-square gold units comprising Pharaonic symbols. It is conferred on heads of states, crown princes, and vice-presidents who offer invaluable services to Egypt or humanity in general.

Since being sworn in as India’s 15th Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, Modi has received several international awards.
The Order of the Nile is the 13th such state honour that Modi has been adorned with by different countries.

* Companion of the Order of Logohu in May 2023 — Papua New Guinea’s highest civilian award for championing cause of unity of Pacific Island countries and spearheading the cause of Global South
* Companion of the Order of Fiji in May 2023 — Highest honour of Fiji in recognition of Modi’s global leadership
* Ebakl Award by Republic of Palau in May 2023 – Presented by Republic of Palau President Surangel S. Whipps Jr during Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea
* Order of Druk Gyalpo in December 2021 — Bhutan’s highest civilian decoration
* Legion of Merit in 2020 – Presented by the US Government; it’s an award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements
* King Hamad Order of the Renaissance in 2019 – The Bahrain Order – First Class is the Gulf country’s top honour
* Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddin in 2019 — Highest honour of the Maldives awarded to foreign dignitaries
* Order of St Andrew in 2019 — Highest civilian honour of Russia
* Order of Zayed in 2019 — Highest civilian honour of the United Arab Emirates
* Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award in 2018 — Highest honour of Palestine awarded to foreign dignitaries
* State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan in 2016 — Highest civilian honour of Afghanistan
* Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2016 — Highest honour of Saudi Arabia awarded to non-Muslim dignitaries.

Besides these state awards, PM Modi has received a number of other accolades such as Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award by the Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) in recognition of commitment of leadership towards future of global energy and environment; Global Goalkeeper Award by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan; Champions of The Earth Award, UN’s highest environmental honour and Seoul Peace Prize.
