New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India and the United States are “close friends and natural partners” and expressed confidence that the ongoing trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the “limitless potential” of the bilateral partnership.
Taking to social media platform X, Modi wrote, “India and USA are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I also look forward to speaking with President Trump.”
His remarks came after US President Donald Trump said that he looked forward to speaking with his “very good friend” Prime Minister Modi in the coming weeks. “Trade Negotiations are continuing to address the Trade Barriers between our two countries. I am very confident that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries,” Trump said in a post.
The comments from both leaders come against the backdrop of heightened trade tensions after the US imposed steep tariffs on Indian imports earlier this year citing New Delhi’s continued purchase of Russian energy. India had criticised the measures as “unfair and unreasonable”.
With both sides signalling a thaw, a US delegation is expected to visit India on September 17–18 to hold talks on pending issues including defence procurement and pricing matte
