Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 19.1 km Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro and flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains, including the new Bengaluru–Belagavi service. The Metro stretch, built at a cost of Rs 7,610 crore, connects RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra through 16 elevated stations and is expected to ease traffic congestion along the busy Silk Board–Electronics City corridor. Passenger services will begin at 5 a.m. on Monday with three trainsets operating at 25-minute intervals.

After inaugurating the line, the Prime Minister travelled from Ragigudda to Electronic City station, accompanied by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He also laid the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Metro expansion.

At KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, Modi flagged off the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express in person and launched the Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune services virtually. The Bengaluru–Belagavi train, Karnataka’s 11th Vande Bharat, will run six days a week except Wednesdays, covering 606 km in 8 hours 30 minutes—nearly an hour faster than existing services. It will leave Belagavi at 5:20 a.m. and reach Bengaluru by 1:50 p.m., with the return departing at 2:20 p.m. and arriving at 10:40 p.m.

The two inaugurations are expected to boost both intra-city mobility in Bengaluru and regional connectivity across Karnataka.
