Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Odisha on February 3 is likely to inaugurate several railway projects, including train service between Jhartarbha and Sonepur.
According to sources, the 21.7-km-long railway track between Jhartarbha and Sonepur, which is a portion of the Khurdha Road-Balangir line project, will be inaugurated virtually by the PM from Sambalpur. It is being constructed at a cost of Rs 306 crore. The railway track was declared fit for use by the Railway Safety Commissioner on December 29 after examination.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources, besides inaugurating the permanent IIM campus and the redeveloped railway station in Sambalpur, the PM may also inaugurate the newly-constructed Sonepur railway station and the Talcher-Sambalpur doubling project, and flag off a train on the Balangir-Sonepur section of Khurda Road-Balangir new line project.
The 73-km Sonepur Purunakatak section of Khurda Road-Balangir project will also be completed by the end of this year, it added.
Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has been regularly monitoring the Khurdha Road-Balangir line project.
