Cuttack: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new state-of-the-art office-cum-residential complex of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) bench in Cuttack via video conferencing, on Wednesday.
“It’s a moment of happiness for all that ITAT has been shifted to its own new building after operating from a rented accommodation for long. The bench in Cuttack will cater not only to Odisha but also provide modern facilities to the taxpayers in other parts of the eastern and north-eastern India. It will also be helpful in disposing of pending cases in Kolkata,” the PM said.
Remembering former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, he said that the much-required project could not have been possible without his vision and contribution.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the new infrastructure will help in quick disposal of cases from Odisha, Bihar and other parts of the country. This is third building for ITAT benches in India but the first in the eastern part of the country. The Odisha government had provided land free of cost for the facility and all other possible assistance,” he added.
The ITAT is an important statutory body in the field of direct taxes and its orders are accepted as final. The new complex in Cuttack is spread over an area of 1.60 acres. The Odisha government had allotted this land free of cost in 2015. It has spacious e-court rooms, ultra-modern record rooms, well-equipped chambers for the members of the bench, library room, well-equipped modern conference hall, with sufficient space for the litigants, bar room for lawyers and chartered accountants, sources said.
