New Delhi: The Congress party on Tuesday launched into Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging he is “scared” of questions and dissent following the arrest of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) chief Uday Bhanu Chib in connection with a protest at the AI Impact Summit.

Delhi Police took Chib into custody over the shirtless protest staged by IYC workers at Bharat Mandapam on February 20.

Chib’s arrest brings the total number of detentions in the case to eight.

Calling Modi a ‘dictator’ without naming him, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, head of the party’s media and publicity department, said: “It is the Opposition’s duty to protest in a democracy, but a dictator will never understand this.”

“The word ‘democracy’ does not exist in his dictionary,” Khera said in a PTI Videos interview, referring to Modi’s recent Meerut speech.

The Congress leader accused Modi of being “scared of dissent and questions being asked of him,” calling him “the most cowardly Prime Minister in the world” who is “being blackmailed” and is “petrified.”

“No matter how much oppression we face, we will continue to raise issues of the people and fight with ‘Ahimsa’,” Khera affirmed Congress’ resolve.

Anticipating protests, authorities have heightened security across key locations in Delhi.

Barricades have been set up at strategic points, particularly around Tilak Marg police station where Chib is being held.

Anti-riot teams, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), and additional paramilitary forces are on standby, with officers ensuring smooth traffic flow in demonstration-prone areas.
