New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold an interaction with the chief ministers of states and Union Territories (UT) via video conferencing at 6.30 pm on Friday.
The CMs of four states (Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal) and one UT (Puducherry) where Assembly elections have been announced will not participate in the meeting due to the Model Code of Conduct, reported India Today. A separate interaction with their Chief Secretaries will be held through the Cabinet Secretariat to ensure continuity in planning and response mechanisms.
The aim of the meeting is to review the conflict in West Asia and the evolving situation, triggered by the US-Iran versus Iran war which has been raging since February 28.
The Prime Minister and the chief ministers will look to assess the implications of the almost four-week-old war for India, especially those concerning liquefied petroleum gas and oil supplies.
The meeting is expected to focus on preparedness measures, including supply chains, energy security, and the safety of Indian citizens abroad.
Contingency planning and internal stability amid global uncertainties may also feature in the discussions.
In his addresses to both Houses of Parliament recently, Modi called for a COVID-like unified Team India approach, urging states and the Centre to work in close coordination in view of the uncertainty and crisis arising from the West Asia situation.
