New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to devotees across the country on the auspicious conclusion of the four-day-long Chhath Puja on Tuesday.
The PM expressed his joy over the successful completion of the festival, which is dedicated to the worship of the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. He also prayed for the well-being and prosperity of all families and devotees who celebrated this festival.
“Today, the auspicious conclusion of the great festival of Chhath took place with the morning arghya offered to Lord Sun God. During this four-day ritual, we witnessed the divine glimpse of our grand tradition of Chhath Puja,” PM Modi posted on X
“Heartfelt congratulations to all our family members who became part of this sacred festival along with all the fasting devotees and devotees! May the boundless grace of Chhathi Maiya keep all your lives forever illuminated,” he added.
Chhath Mahaparv began on October 25 with the ritual of Nahay-Khay, followed by Kharna on October 26, Sandhya Arghya (evening offerings) on October 27. The festival concluded on October 28 with Usha Arghya (morning offerings).
On Tuesday morning, devotees across the country offered ‘Usha Arghya’ to the rising Sun, marking the culmination of Chhath Puja. Thousands gathered along riverbanks, ponds, and ghats to perform rituals and seek blessings for prosperity and well-being.
Odisha CM Takes Part In Chhath Rituals
Chhath Mahaparv was celebrated with deep devotion and grandeur in Bhubaneswar as well, drawing devotees from across the city to pay homage to the rising sun. On the concluding day of the four-day-long festival, devotees offered prayers to Usha and Surya Dev with faith and traditional rituals.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also participated in the rituals at the new Bali Jatra ground at Mancheswar here, much to the delight of other devotees. He along with his wife Priyanka Marndi, offered ‘sandhya arghya’ to the setting sun and prayed for the well-being of the people of the state.
The CM said that the Odisha government is committed to strengthening the tradition of “brotherhood, harmony, and cultural unity”, and Chhath Puja in Odisha is an example of this cultural unity. “Chhath festival teaches us that the true foundation of life lies in the power of nature, water, air, and the sun. Through this festival, we express our gratitude towards nature and the environment. There is no ostentation or extravagance in it—only sincerity and spiritual reverence,” he added.
The banks of the Mahanadi and other areas in Sambalpur also witnessed a vibrant and devotional atmosphere on Monday evening. Devotees from areas such as Mandliya, Khetrajpur, Chandan Nagar, Bareipali, and other parts of the city gathered at different ghats, including Bishnupada Ghat in Burla, Marwadi Pada ghat, Katar Dhuha Bandh, Kadam Mal Chhath Ghat, Hirakud Chhath Puja Ghat, Bhanga Munda Bihari Pada Ghat, Jhankar Pada, and Ekodo Pada, along the river and pond to perform rituals and offer prayers to the Sun God.
