New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone and dedicated to the nation several development projects worth over Rs 4150 crore in Dwarka on Sunday.
A highlight of Modi’s visit to the ancient city of Gujarat was offering underwater puja in deep sea.
The Prime Minister dived into the Arabian Sea, off the Gujarat coast, to offer prayers at the ancient site of Dwarka.
Known for its connection with Lord Krishna, Dwarka was once a thriving city which is believed to have got submerged under the sea centuries ago.
Visitors go scuba diving off the coast of Dwarka, near Beyt Dwarka island, with tourists and local people going underwater to see the remains of ancient Dwarka excavated by archaeologists.
On Sunday, pictures of PM Modi in scuba gear descending into the waters to offer his prayers went viral on social media.
As a symbolic tribute to Lord Krishna, Modi offered peacock feathers as he paid homage to the ancient city.
The PM described his experience as ‘very divine’.
“To pray in the city of Dwarka, which is immersed in the waters, was a very divine experience. I felt connected to an ancient era of spiritual grandeur and timeless devotion. May Bhagwan Shri Krishna bless us all,” the PM wrote on X and shared pictures.
