New Delhi: The Union government has announced that the COVID-19 vaccination programme in India will be rolled out in India on January 16.

But there are still several questions being asked as to how the process will be run.

As the Indian population seeks more clarity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday made it clear that in phase 1 of vaccination, the cost of inoculating 3 crore people — comprising coronavirus warriors and frontline workers — will be borne by the Central government.

The general public won’t be part of the first phase.

Modi claimed that the two made-in-India vaccines, which have been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India, are more cost-effective than other vaccines, and have been developed as per the country’s needs.

Modi, who interacted with chief ministers of all states and UTs to discuss the pandemic situation and vaccination process, informed that four other vaccines are in the pipeline in India.
