New Delhi/Rourkela: Despite concerted efforts, social activist Muktikanta Biswal failed to get an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
He had walked all the way to Delhi to remind the Prime Minister of the promises he had made during his maiden visit to Rourkela. The activist later resorted to hunger strike, which he called off on Wednesday after Delhi police did not allow him to sit on a dharna.
The 30-year-old youth had earlier shifted his strike place from Ramlila Maidan to Jagannath Temple at Hauz Khas, where Odia spiritual leader Baba Balia broke his fast.
With Delhi police asking him to leave the capital, the activist said he would continue his stir in Rourkela.
Muktikanta started his ‘Delhi Chalo’ mission on April 16. After covering about 1,350 km by foot, he fainted on a highway and was admitted to a hospital in Agra on June 27 morning. He continued his journey, thereafter.
On reaching Delhi, he met Union Tribal Minister Jual Oram first and sought his help to meet the PM.
Oram, however, discouraged him saying that the promises have been addressed as the construction of the second bridge over Brahmani had already started and work for a super specialty in burn and plastic surgery department of IGH had been initiated.
He resorted to hunger strike at Ramlila Maidan. Delhi Police personnel forcibly removed him from there and got him admitted to a hospital. He then shifted his agitation to the Jagannath Temple at Hauz Khas.
