Bhubaneswar: Two months after Rs 27 lakh was looted from an ATM of Punjab National Bank (PNB) near Patia Big Bazar area under Infocity police limits, the Commissionerate Police on Saturday took the two prime accused to the crime scene to understand the details of their modus operandi.
The Commissionerate Police had brought the accused duo — Samarjyot Singh of Punjab and Zafar Sadiq of Kerala — from Vizag on three-day transit remand on Friday.
The accused showed cops the place where they had dumped the half-burnt notes and gas cutter after looting the cash.
According to police, the accused have a history of looting several ATM counters in different parts of the country. They had arrived in Bhubaneswar from Kolkata on October 5 and stayed in a hotel in the city. They hired a bike and a gas cylinder from a trader in Mancheswar before carrying out their operation from the PNB ATM on October 10.
They then traveled to Delhi, Chandigarh, and Bangalore before being arrested in Vizag. Police found out their involvement in the looting of Rs 9 lakh from an ATM counter in the Andhra coastal city. Vizag police later informed the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police after the duo confessed to looting cash from the PNB ATM in the Odisha capital city.
