Balasore: A group of armed poachers attacked a team of forest personnel at Kuldiha sanctuary in Balasore district on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off regarding presence of poachers in the sanctuary, a team of five forest officials conducted raid at the spot.
Seeing the raiding team, a group of nearly 80 miscreants, hiding in the woods, suddenly appeared before them and beat them up them severely.
Those injured were later rescued by some locals and admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of the victims was shifted to the district headquarters after his condition deteriorated.
“One of the officials has his wrist broken while another suffered head injuries in the attack. We have asked Balasore SP to deploy at least one squad of armed police force to prevent reoccurrence of such incidents”, Balasore divisional forest officer Biswaraj Panda said.
