Bhubaneswar: The joy of giving is boundless. Teachers of the morning shift of DAV Public School, Pokhariput tried to bring loads of smiles and joy to the inmates of Adruta Children’s Home Gadakana and Missionaries of Charity Mother Teresa’s Home in Satya Nagar here on Thursday.
They tried to bring in moments of happiness through gifting as part of the Joy of Giving Week (October 2 to October 8).
A team of teachers led by supervisor Sanghamitra Satapathy under the mentorship of school Principal Dr Sujata Sahu, collected daily need items from the parents of the morning session (Class LKG to Standard II) and shared them with the inmates of these two stay homes.
The donated items included soaps, dettol, detergents, mosquito coils, phenyl and food items like rice, sugar, potato, tea, biscuits, satua, flattened rice and new clothes and bed sheets etc.
The entire team of teachers also spent quality time with the inmates, listened to their stories and sat through their performances. They interacted with them and came to know the challenges they face in everyday life.
“We celebrate the Joy of Giving Week every week but this time, we have scaled it up a bit with active cooperation from the parents,” said Sanghamitra Satapathy.
“In the coming years, we will be taking it to a much higher level. We are trying to help inmates who are needy and in doing so, inspiring others to do the same. We need to share our happiness with inmates of stay homes,” she added.
