Cuttack: Considering the heavy rush of visitors, the Commissionerate Police has advised the women not to wear costly jewellery while going to the Bali Jatra which took off in Cuttack city on Monday.

Speaking to media persons on the security arrangements, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said it would be advisable for the women to avoid wearing the ornaments in Bali Jatra as it may pose threat to their security. Despite tight security in place at the fair ground, pickpocket and snatching cannot be ruled out, he said.

He also requested the visitors, particularly elderly persons, to remain alert while going around the stalls in the fair during peak hours. The parents should keep their names, phone number and address written on a piece of paper in the pocket of their children so that it would be easier to trace them if they get lost in the crowd, Mishra said.

For the assistance of the visitors, 25 aid posts have been set up at the fairground, the DCP said adding that 8 special teams will keep a watchful eye on the anti-socials. Special arrangements have also been made for elderly persons and children, he added.

On security measures, he said 60 platoons of police have been deployed at the annual fair on the banks of Mahanadi. The entire area of the fair is under CCTV surveillance. Besides, policemen in plain clothes have been deployed to attend to the cases of eve teasing, molestation, pickpocketing and snatching, the DCP said.
