Angul: Police arrested two persons — a man and his son — for allegedly duping a youth on the pretext of giving him a multinational company job.
The accused were identified as Ghanashyam Mishra and his son Shobhan from the Similipada area in the district. They had duped a person named Pranabandhu Jena from Benagadia in the same district. The duo duped the youth of Rs 4.50 lakh on the promise of landing him a job in the Tata Company. The Transaction took place around three years ago but the duo didn’t keep their promise.
Failed to secure the job, a frustrated Pranabandhu asked them to return the money. The father-son duo returned Rs 80,000 in three instalments but failed to return the rest of the amount. They misbehaved with the youth whenever he asked for the rest of the amount.
Left with no option to recover the money, Pranabandhu lodged a police complaint after which the cops took the duo in custody.
“We have received complaint from one person based on which we have registered a case at Colliery Police station and arrested the accused. We will move court seeking their remand for further probe. We will investigate on how many people were duped by the duo,” Angul SP Jagmohan Meena was quoted as saying by Odisha TV.
During the probe, it was unearthed that they have duped about 1,000 students since 2018.
The duo collected Rs 2 to 3 lakh per student. They have amassed multiple crores from students of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha.
