Hyderabad: Parents spend lakhs to provide their children the best of schooling and education.
Just imagine their feelings when they find out that the school they have chosen is a den for criminal activity!
In an incident which has sent shockwaves through the country, police busted a drug racket which was being run from the premises of a private school in Hyderabad.
Malela Jaya Prakash Goud, the director of Medha School, converted classrooms and restricted areas into a facility to produce Alprazolam, a banned narcotic substance used in the adulteration of toddy.
During a raid at the school, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) team of Telangana Police found a chemistry lab fitted with eight reactors and dryers used for large-scale drug production.
Police recovered over 7 kg of Alprazolam, Rs 21 lakh in cash, large quantities of raw chemicals and manufacturing equipment.
Goud and two of his associates have been arrested.
NDTV quoted officials as saying that Goud learned how to make the drug from a person named Guruvareddy and sold the contraband to toddy depots in Mahabubnagar.
The drug operation had been going on for about six months, with Goud allegedly running the unit six days a week and giving deliveries on Sundays.
Classes were conducted on ground and first floors of the building, while the drug-making unit was located on the second floor.
