Bhubaneswar: Police have seized a large number of cough syrup bottles in an inter-state racket and arrested two persons in this connection in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to media person on the seizure on Monday, ACP Pradip Rout said on the basis of reliable inputs, a team from Bharatpur police station conducted a raid on Baramunda bus stand. During the raid, the team found the cough syrup being loaded from an auto-rickshaw to a bus.
The police team seized 2,400 bottles of cough syrup sealed in cartons and some tablets from the auto-rickshaw and arrested two persons transporting those. The cost of seized cough syrup was estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh.
“The arrested persons have been identified as Dilip Darda and Asish Kumar Sahu. They belong to Nayagarh but were staying in a rented house in Mancheswar,” said the ACP.
During questioning, the arrested duo told the police that the proprietor of MS Pharma Care in Mancheswar, Pravin Kumar Das, who also belongs to Nayagarh, used to procure the cough syrup from outside the state.
The proprietor was supplying the cough syrup along with the tablets from his plant to different districts. The arrested persons were engaged in transportation of the syrup.
“The tablets of anthrax formulation were supplied to be mixed with syrup so that its consumption would lead to high intoxication,” said Rout. The police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
