Berhampur: Police have confirmed that the minor girl, who was rescued in critical condition in Ganjam district on January 28 and later succumbed in SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack, was gangraped.
Speaking to the media, Additional SP, Berhampur on Sunday said while the girl was playing near her house in Sorala village under Golanthara police limits at around 11 am, the two accused persons from Sorala took her to a deserted house nearby and raped her. When the girl cried in pain, they brutally assaulted her with bricks, causing injury on her head, face and ear.
On being informed by some locals, her family members, who were away at the time of the incident, rushed to the spot and admitted her in a critical condition in MKCG Medical College and Hospital Berhampur. Later, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack where she succumbed to her injuries.
Some villagers, who had managed to nab one person from the spot, handed him over to the police who reached there on being informed. The police seized some incriminating materials including broken bricks stained with blood and three teeth of the victim.
“We have arrested both the accused and forwarded them to the court. A case has been registered in Golanthara police station under Sections 365/ 366/376 DB/307/341 PC/6 POCSO Act,” the ASP said.
