Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police on Saturday demolished the house of woman drug dealer Ranju Nayak, who along with an associate allegedly murdered a youth in Bhubaneswar recently.
According to sources, her house was demolished for encroaching on government land and constructing a house on it as well as running drug trade from there.
Ranju and her associate Kanha allegedly murdered a youth, identified as Subrat Rao, at Narayani slum in Unit-VIII on September 9. Rao alias Chandu was allegedly hacked to death by the duo.
“Chandu was an antisocial. As many as seven cases are pending against him. He used to visit Ranju’s house and extort money from her. Some days back, Chandu had assaulted Ranju’s sister when the latter failed to give him money. This had happened in the absence of Ranju and Kanha. On the fateful day, Chandu had gone to extort money when Ranju and Kanha beat him to death,” DCP Prateek Singh told mediapersons.
Both the accused had fled the scene after the crime and were planning to leave for Kerala when police arrested them from Tara Singh area of Ganjam.
Ranju has been to jail twice before for her involvement in drug trade.
Chandu’s family members alleged that he was killed for opposing their drugs business at Narayani slum.
“After undergoing treatment at a drug rehabilitation centre, Chandu had joined hands with the police as an informer and was opposing their drugs trade, for which he was killed,” his elder brother P Sibananda Rao had said earlier.
