Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday detained thousands of activists of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) at several places in Odisha.
Reports said that the police detained hundreds of activists at the Keonjhar railway station in the morning. Police also picked up NNKS convener of Cuttack district Subash Panda.
Apart from this, the police also detained several activists at Kuakhia in Jajpur and Balugan in Khurda district on Sunday night while they were on a pada yatra to Bhubaneswar. Police even seized their utensils used for cooking food.
Talking to mediapersons on Monday, NKSS state convener Akshaya Kumar said that the police have started arresting the activists since last night. However, at some places, the cops had to back off as the activists threatened to set the police vehicle on fire. “The manner in which the police are arresting, it seems that the state government has clamped a state of emergency. Even during the British rule, such instances were not seen. But now, the action is taken against the people if they are speaking anything against the government,” he pointed out.
