Bhubaneswar: In a stern action against the transporters who refused to provide their vehicles for election duty, Odisha’s Ganjam district administration has directed the police to arrest the owners.
According to official sources, Ganjam collector Dibya Jyoti Parida has issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against 21 vehicle owners for refusing to provide their vehicles to the administration for election duty.
The administration had asked the vehicle owners to provide their vehicles on rent for transportation of polling personnel and materials to different booths before the election date in the district. As the vehicle owners did not comply with the administration’s direction, the collector issued the NBW and asked the police to arrest them, the sources said.
The voting for election to Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency and Assembly segments under it is scheduled to be held in the first phase of elections in the state on May 13.
