Police Find Diamonds During Checking Against Ganja Smuggling In Chhattisgarh; 2 From Odisha Arrested
Bhubaneswar: A man and his son from Odisha were arrested in Chhattisgarh for smuggling diamonds during a checking by police for illegal ganja transport.
According to sources, considering large scale ganja smuggling on Odisha-Chhattisgarh route, the police of the neighbouring state have launched a drive to check the vehicles at border posts.
During such drive at Shobha near Gariabnad under Raipur district on Thursday, police nabbed two persons going on a scooter from Odisha while the latter were trying to escape. On checking, the police found 745 carat diamonds from the dickey of their scooter and seized those. The market value of the seized precious stones was estimated to be around Rs 50 lakh.
Gariaband SP said the two persons were identified as Khokan Dhali and his son Biplab Dhali belonging to Bharsundi Tola village under Raighar police station in Nabarangpur district of Odisha. The police have forwarded them to court following their arrest.
The Chhattisgarh police has launched an investigation to ascertain the racket involved in diamond smuggling and others involved in it.
