Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police Dr R P Sharma on Wednesday suspended Jagannath Acharya, inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Laxmipur police station in Korput District for gross misconduct and lackadaisical attitude in dealing with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case lodged on July 12.
During the period of suspension, Acharya will remain under the disciplinary control of DIG of Police, South Western Range, Koraput, the DGP ordered.
Sharma further instructed Koraput SP to immediately submit necessary draft charge and memo of evidence along with relevant documents against the IIC through DIG of Police SWR for initiating disciplinary proceeding against him.
Acting on intelligence input, a police team from Laxmipur police station, on July 11, detained a truck on the suspicion that ganja was being smuggled in it, official sources said.
However, due to suspected and deliberate negligence of the IIC, the detained driver could manage to escape and as per law, he did not report the matter to SDPO or Koraput SP.
Following an inquiry, Koraput SP had submitted a report to DGP through DIG, SWR. As prima facie evidence was established and a departmental proceeding was being contemplated, Acharya was placed under suspension, the sources added.
