Berhampur: Berhampur police has launched a campaign to curb ragging in educational institutions following incidents at Binayak Acharya College.
Superintendent of Police Dr Saravana Vivek M met principals of 29 colleges at his office here on Wednesday. Some members of the Anti-Ragging committee also attended the meeting.
There has been an uproar over ragging at Binayak Acharya College and Khallikote Higher Secondary School recently. Twelve students of Binayak Acharya College were rusticated after a video of alleged ragging incident went viral.
A special police team will be formed to visit and interact with college students periodically, said the Berhampur SP.
The meeting resolved that every college should strictly adhere to Supreme Court guidelines, which mandate an Anti Ragging committee to be formed in every college.
The committee should be proactive and meet frequently. Contact numbers of committee members should be available with the junior students so that they know whom to contact and how to report any case of ragging.

If a case is reported, the Anti Ragging committee should investigate it without any delay.
If ragging is found to be genuine, proportionate punishment should be meted out to the student/s after thorough investigation.
In case of any criminal act being found to have been committed, principals should report the case to the local police station immediately for further action.
