Police Nab Spurned Lover Who Stabbed Married Woman To Death In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested Nanda Kishore Ojha, who allegedly stabbed a married woman to death at Jharana Sahi near Sishu Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on February 27 after she refused to elope with him.
“As Nanda Kishore worked as a carpenter and did not have a permanent house, it was difficult to locate him. He lived at railway station and other public places,” Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh told the media.
Police investigation revealed that Deepika was living with her husband Kunjabihari Dutta at Jharana Sahi for the past five years. The accused had been visiting their rented accommodation since a month. On February 27 evening, the accused stopped Deepika when she was returning home from her shop. They had an argument following which Nanda Kishore stabbed her with a sharp chisel (batali) in the lower abdomen. A bleeding Deepika ran to her neighbour. When Kunjabihari was informed, he rushed her to the Capital Hospital here from where she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH) in Cuttack.
Deepika succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB MCH on February 28.
“Nanda Kishore had been pursuing Deepika and was forcing her to stay with him. As she spurned his proposal, he stabbed her with a sharp-edged chisel in a fit of rage,” Singh said.
The chisel used in the crime was seized from a dustbin near the crime spot, he added.
A case has been registered under Section 302 of IPC and the accused has been sent to judicial custody.
