Patna: A complaint of theft from the official Harding Road residence of former Bihar minister and Jannayak Janata Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav has prompted a police investigation after cash, jewellery and electronic gadgets were reported missing.
Yadav has accused his former aide Motilal Rai of involvement in the incident. The complaint was lodged at the Secretariat police station on June 22, after which police visited and inspected the house, as reported by The Statesman.
Cash & Valuables Gone
The FIR states that roughly Rs 20 lakh in cash, stored in a cupboard for party-related use, was discovered missing. A subsequent search of the residence reportedly showed several more items had vanished.
Items listed in the complaint include a gold chain of about two tolas, a gold ring, four pen drives, two hard disks, an iPad, a MacBook, a Lenovo laptop and four iPhone Pro Max handsets. The total loss has been described as being worth several lakhs of rupees.
Probe Underway
Secretariat range DSP Dr. Anu said the complaint was being looked into. “A complaint regarding the theft has been received. The police are investigating the matter seriously. Further action will be taken after considering all the facts. The situation will become clear only after the investigation is complete,” she said.
Investigators are examining evidence and pursuing different leads as part of the inquiry.
Earlier Complaint In 2022
This is not the first theft allegation tied to Yadav’s official residence. In 2022, he had filed a complaint accusing a person named Chandan, involved with the house’s upkeep, in a similar incident.
Concerns Over Security
The new complaint has renewed attention on security protocols and the level of access granted to staff and visitors at official residences. Police said they would verify the claims, review the evidence and determine the next steps as the investigation progresses.
