Police Recover Snatched Silver Ornaments Worth Over Rs 2.5 Lakh, Arrest 2 Persons In Odisha’s Berhampur
Berhampur: Police have recovered looted silver ornaments worth more than Rs 2.5 lakh and arrested 2 persons in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per the complaint filed at Berhampur Town police station, the two arrested persons, D Gandhi of Marathi Street in Aska and Mekala Dilip of Kaithapalli in Sorada in the district along with another person had snatched a bag containing the silver ornaments from Surendra Mahapatra of Jemadeipentha Sahi in Berhampur near Minakshi Hospital Church Road Berhampur on June 11.
Surendra is a silver vendor and visits nearby villages to sell the ornaments. On the fateful day, when Surendra was returning to Berhampur from Jhadankuli and Hugulapata villages, the accused followed him on a bike. Finding a lonely patch, they snatched the bag and fled.
Surendra lodged a complaint in Berhampur Town police station the same day. The police registered a case and formed a team for investigation.
During investigation, the team identified all the accused and arrested two of them from Aska on Thursday. They have launched a manhunt to trace the third accused, identified as A Ajit.
The police also recovered the entire 3.42 kg of silver ornaments worth Rs 2.7 lakh from the possession of the arrested duo.
