Police Rescue 22 Migrant Workers From Different Places In Odisha’s Balangir

Balangir: Police have rescued 22 migrant workers and detained three persons in this connection from two places in Odisha’s Balangir district.

According to police sources, one Ram Bibhar, a middleman, had taken money from 15 people of different villages under Lathor police station in the district on the promise of providing them jobs in Telangana.

On getting information that Bibhar was taking the villagers in a vehicle, the police conducted a raid and rescued all 15 persons including 8 men, 5 women and two children. The police said the rescued persons belonging to Gabhara, Patnagarh and Baddakala were sent back to their villages.

The villagers told the police that Bibhar had paid money to them in advance to work at different places in Telangana. As they did not find any work in their villages, they had taken this step, the sources said.

In another incident, 7 migrant workers were rescued from near Kharli village under Turekela police station. They included 3 men, 3 women and a child. They said labour contractor Naren of Lahandipalli village had given them advance money to work in Andhra Pradesh.

The police have detained the two middlemen and a driver in connection with both cases. They have also seized a vehicle and four motorcycles from the places of raids.
