Firing deaths continued to haunt poll-bound Jharkhand with a police jawan gunning down a commanding officer at Khelgaon stadium in Ranchi early Monday morning. The accused, Vikramraj Badene, then shot himself with his service weapon, police said.
Bedene was a jawan in the D Company of Raipur armed police, which was deployed in Ranchi for poll duty.
The victim was identified as Melaram Kurre, the commander of D Company.
Police said the shooting occurred around 6.25 am and they were trying to ascertain the cause.
The incident came just two days after a youth was killed and six people were injured in police firing at a polling booth in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on Saturday.
