Positions Vacant: Applications Invited For Team India Head Coach, Support Staff

New Delhi: Amid media reports that Rahul Dravid is likely to take over as Team India coach after the T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday invited applications for head coach and other members of support staff.

In a media release, the BCCI mentioned that applications for head coach will have to be submitted by 5 pm on October 26. For the other posts, deadline for submitting applications is November 3.

The other Team India (senior men) positions for which BCCI has sought applications are — batting coach, bowling coach and fielding coach. The BCCI is also looking for Head Sports Science/Medicine with National Cricket Academy.

With Ravi Shastri’s tenure as head coach ending after the T20 World Cup — which is being held in the UAE and Oman – next month, there has been speculation over who will succeed in the hot seat. It has been reported that after initial reluctance, former India captain Dravid has agreed to take the job till the 2023 ODI World Cup.

But if the head coach’s position was an open and shut case, why would the BCCI invite applications?

Skipper Virat Kohli, who will be stepping down as India’s T20 captain after the T20 World but continue to lead in ODIs and Tests, was in the dark about the Dravid ‘news’.

“No idea exactly what’s happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet,” he said on a specific question on Shastri’s successor.

Besides, Shastri, the current support staff includes batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Bharath Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar.
