Possible Flood Situation Staring Odisha In The Face: Minister
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday hinted at a possible flood situation in the state.
Revenue and Disaster Management minister Maheswar Mohanty attributed it to heavy rainfall in the upper catchments. “Despite heavy rain in the past two days, there was no danger of flood till yesterday. But things may take a turn for the worse now,” he said.
Talking about preparedness of the state government, the Minister said the situation is being closely monitoring.
The district collectors have been directed to remain on alert to tackle any eventuality and immediately submit report on loss of life and damage to property if such a situation arises, he said.
“The district administrations and the Revenue and Disaster Management department are ready for relief and rescue operations,” he added.
Mohanty, however, said though 26 districts of the state witnessed heavy rainfall, the spell has not been encouraging in Deogarh, Sundargarh and Gajapati.
