Bhubaneswar: With potato price once again shooting up in Odisha, the state government on Friday said that the situation will improve soon and people need not worry.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra told reporters that the prices of potato have gone up due to the transportation policy of West Bengal, which has been a major source of the tuber for Odisha.
Stating that there is no dispute with West Bengal, he said the Odisha government does not want to enter into a confrontation with the neighbouring state over the issue as they are functioning in accordance with their own policies.
The prices have gone up because of disruption in potato supply from West Bengal, he said, adding that Odisha is taking all necessary steps to become self-sufficient in potato.
Sources said potatoes which were priced at Rs 40 per kg around three days ago shot up to Rs 45-50. The price is expected to rise further with little sign of relief.
