Bhubaneswar: The potato traders of West Bengal on Tuesday called off their strike following an assurance from the state government to meet their demands.
Speaking to media persons, Lalu Mukhopadhyay, general secretary of the State Progressive Potato Traders’ Association, said, “We had written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking her intervention on our demands. The Agriculture Minister has assured us of fulfilling our demands.”
He further said the situation would normalise on Thursday as the officials of the cold storages have withdrawn their agitation. The potatoes would start to be transported soon, he added.
The potato traders of the state decided to go on strike from Tuesday after their meeting with agriculture minister Becharam Manna on Monday failed to resolve the deadlock over the tuber’s sale to other states.
