Kadiri: Four people were killed and 18 others injured following a massive explosion at Kammaravaripalli village in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathyasai district on Wednesday, according to a police official. The blast completely razed at least two houses in the area.
Sri Sathyasai district superintendent of police S Satish Balijepalli earlier said that the incident took place around 12.30 pm.
“Until now, four people died, and 18 others were injured, including one in a serious condition,” news agency PTI quoted the police official as saying.
He said that workers from Telangana had been staying in the house where the explosion happened.
While authorities are pointing to a possible gas cylinder explosion as the cause, the sheer force of the blast raises doubts about it being limited to just that, the official indicated to PTI.
The Andhra Pradesh incident comes just a day after a deadly explosion at a Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district claimed over 10 lives initially.
PTI reported that the death toll at the Vedanta plant has now climbed to 14 after one more worker died from injuries, according to police on Wednesday.
The blast occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam from the boiler to the turbine ruptured at Vedanta Ltd’s power facility in Singhitarai village.
It inflicted severe burn injuries on numerous workers.
While four workers perished instantly at the site, 10 more succumbed to their injuries subsequently, police said. One more worker died overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, taking the toll to 14.
