Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu’s remarkable rise from a remote tribal village in Odisha to the highest constitutional office in India is being immortalised in a new documentary film, highlighting her extraordinary journey of perseverance, resilience, and inspiration.
According to sources, shooting for the documentary, tentatively titled – From the tribal hinterland of Mayurbhanj district to Rashtrapati Bhavan – has been underway for past several months, with crews capturing locations in her native Mayurbhanj district, including scenes tied to her early life, roots and his in-law’s place in Pahaddpur. A camera crew equipped with high-definition sound recording gear was actively filming throughout the President’s recent six-day state tour, which concluded on February 7.
The project, initiated by public broadcaster Prasar Bharati, is being produced under the prestigious banner of Aamir Khan Productions.
Sources close to the production indicate that the film aims to chronicle President Murmu’s life in depth including her humble beginnings in a Santhal tribal family, overcoming personal hardships including profound family losses, her entry into education and politics as a teacher-turned-legislator, and her historic election in 2022 as India’s first President from a tribal community and the first woman in the role.
Born in 1958 in a small village of Uparbeda in Mayurbhanj district, she is the first person from her community to hold such high office.
Speaking to the media, Talaphokhari sarpanch Ruknimi Murmu said: “From what we understand, development of Pahadpur over the years is being shot for over a year now.”
The documentary is expected to feature archival footage, interviews with those who knew her during her formative years, and insights into how her experiences shaped her leadership, sources added.
