Patna: Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor, who has been on hunger strike seeking cancellation of and re-examination of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam, was shifted to the ICU of Medanta Hospital here on Tuesday.
As his health deteriorated, Kishor was admitted to the hospital before being shifted to the ICU, PTI reported citing party sources.
Kishor, who began the hunger strike on January 2, was arrested on January 6 as his fast unto death was deemed “illegal”.
He was released on bail, but Kishor was found to be suffering from dehydration and doctor advised hospitalisation.
Party leaders then took Kishor to a private healthcare facility in Patna in an ambulance.
“There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort,” said the doctor.
A defiant Kishor told newspersons before leaving for hospital that his fast unto death will continue.
Kishor has thrown his weight behind a protest by civil service aspirants who are demanding cancellation of BPSC exams held last month amid allegations of question paper leak.
On the basis of an FIR filed against him for staging a hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in violation of a Patna High Court order, police arrested Kishor early on Monday morning. He was later released on bail.
