Ambulance Failure: Woman Delivers Baby On Road In Nabarangpur
Nabarangpur: In the absence of proper road connectivity in remote areas of Odisha, several instances of expectant mothers being carried to hospitals in pitiable conditions have come to the fore in the recent past.
The latest was reported from Bagabeda village under Jharigaan block in Nabarangpur district, where Hunda Saanta, wife of Lachhada Saanta, had to be carried on a cot by her relatives for a distance of 2 km to reach the hospital on Saturday morning.
Notably, Hunda developed labour pain at around 12 am but for incessant rain, her relatives could not take her to the hospital. Her family contacted the 102 ambulance service. However, due to heavy rain and bad road conditions, the ambulance could not reach the village.
She delivered the baby while being taken to the hospital on a cot.
Later, the mother and baby were admitted to Jharigaan hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Bagabeda village is only 2 km away from Jharigaan Community Health Centre and the block office. Still, there is no proper road to the village.
Two to three years ago, Rs 8 lakh was sanctioned for laying the road under the MNREGS. However, it could not be completed, because of which the villagers are facing lots of problems.
The locals have now demanded immediate construction of the road.
