Bhubaneswar: Unpleasant scenes greet flyers deboarding at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), courtesy unregulated taxi prices. Those not having access to popular app-based cab hailing services, end up paying exorbitant prices to local carriers. To check such harassment, the Commissionerate Police and airport authorities have decided to set up a prepaid taxi booth.
“A meeting will be held with airport officials next week to discuss the prepaid taxi counter at BPIA,” said Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty.
Mohanty informed that the booth will feature the Commissionerate Police logo and will be guarded by a police personnel. The operations will be monitored by the police and this will give a sense of security to travellers.
A popular app-based cab hailing service currently has a booth inside the airport. Sources also said that there is an unauthorised taxi service outside Terminal 1.
Prepaid auto-rickshaw services have been operational at railway station, Baramunda bus stand and KIIT University.
The Police Commissioner also informed that the police will soon convene a meeting with auto-rickshaw and taxi driver unions to discuss bad driving, parking and other issues. Police will also review and restart the Pink Auto service, which was launched back in 2014.
