London: Indian President Droupadi Murmu was among several Heads of state and eminent dignitaries to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey here on Monday.
The funeral service for the Queen, who passed way at the age of 96 on September 8 after reigning for a record 70 years, was conducted by the Dean of Westminster 11 am (3.30 pm IST) onwards, with the Archbishop of Canterbury giving the Sermon and Commendation.
The Queen’s great-grandchildren Prince George and Princess Charlotte formed part of the royal family procession behind the Queen’s coffin as it was carried into Westminster Abbey.
The nation observed a two-minute silence towards the end of the hour-long service. The Sovereign’s Piper of Royal Regiment of Scotland then played the traditional lament, “Sleep, dearie, sleep.”
The Queen’s coffin is currently in procession from London to Wellington Arch, where it will be placed in the state hearse and depart for Windsor. A committal service will take place at St George’s Chapel at 4 pm (8.30 pm IST).
Once the committal service ends, the Queen’s coffin will be lowered into the Royal Vault, set beneath St Georges.
