New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the National Service Scheme (NSS) Awards 2018-19 through a virtual ceremony from Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday.
There were 42 awardees in 3 categories — University/+2 Council, NSS Units & their Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers, stated a PIB press release.
The President appreciated the fact 14 of the 42 awardees were women. “The women of our country are abiding by the tradition of Savitribai Phule, Kasturba Gandhi and Mother Teresa in rendering service to the nation,” said President Kovind.
He observed the fact that 40 lakh students from various educational institutions are associated with the noble scheme of NSS was an encouraging development and means the future of our country is in safe hands.
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju interacted with some of the award winners who joined the ceremony from Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan.
“India is one of the youngest countries in the world and all young volunteers are our future. I have full confidence that all the young awardees will be an inspiration to the young generation today and will continue to brighten the name of India by continuing their social work,” said Rijiju
The details of the NSS Award for the year 2018-19 in 3 different categories are as under:
