Jajpur: All schools in Odisha’s Jajpur town will stay closed on Tuesday (February 3) in view of President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to the district, according to a notification issued by the District Education Officer (DEO).

It is aimed at facilitating smooth arrangements and ensuring public safety amid the high-profile visit.

President Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening on a six-day visit to the state. She will visit Jajpur on Tuesday after an overnight stay at Lok Bhavan in the state capital. She will offer prayers at the temple of Goddess Biraja and perform rituals at Navi Gaya, a significant site for ancestral rites. General darshan will remain suspended starting from 5.30 am on that day. The temple premises will remain inaccessible to devotees throughout the President’s ‘pind daan’ rituals for her ancestors and her stay.

Late in the afternoon, she will attend the convocation ceremony of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore as the chief guest. She will then proceed to Puri, where she will perform ‘pind daan’ at Swetaganga tank the following morning and visit Shree Jagannath Temple for darshan of the sibling deities around 7:40 am. She is likely to spend nearly 40 minutes at the 12th-century shrine, which will remain closed for devotees from 6 am until her departure at 8.20 am.

During the final leg of her Odisha tour, the President will visit Mayurbhanj district, where she is slated to participate in multiple official and cultural programmes and also visit the Simlipal National Park, which will remain closed for tourists for three days starting February 4.

On Wednesday, she will inaugurate a holiday home at Rairangpur, visit a Girls’ Higher Secondary School, unveil the statue of tribal leader Bhanjbir Sunaram Soren and inaugurate a sports complex.

On Thursday, she will attend a special programme at the Rairangpur Jagannath Temple before heading for Simlipal National Park. She will interact with tribal women and youth groups the following day before returning to Bhubaneswar to attend the Black Swan Summit India, an event jointly organised by the Odisha government and the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) to discuss the impact of AI and future technology stacks on global capability centres, education, and the future of jobs in the FinTech and InsurTech sectors.

The President is scheduled to leave Bhubaneswar for Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
