Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Sunday postponed the reopening of primary schools in the state from January 3 amid a sharp and sudden rise in COVID-19 cases.
The government had earlier announced the reopening of schools from Classes 1 to 5 from January 3.
The decision to defer the reopening of primary schools was taken after officials visited schools across the state to assess the ground reality.
However, offline classes from Classes 6 to 10 will continue.
Odisha on Sunday registered a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases with 424 more persons, including 67 children below 18 years, testing positive during the last 24 hours. The state had reported 298 cases on Saturday.
