New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended warm congratulations to Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley after she secured a historic third consecutive electoral victory in Barbados, reaffirming the strong ties between India and the Caribbean nation.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said: “Warm congratulations to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley on her historic third consecutive electoral victory. India deeply values its long-standing friendship with Barbados, which continues to expand across diverse areas of cooperation. I warmly recall our meeting on the sidelines of the India-CARICOM Summit in 2024 and look forward to working closely with her to further strengthen our partnership for the benefit of our peoples.”
Mottley’s Barbados Labour Party (BLP) achieved a clean sweep in the recent general election, winning all 30 seats in the House of Assembly — marking a 30-0 mandate for the third successive election.
Following her decisive victory, Mottley declared Friday a national bank holiday and announced that a national thanksgiving and celebration rally would be held Saturday afternoon at the National Botanical Gardens.
PM Modi and PM Mottley last met in November 2024 on the sidelines of the India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana, where they reviewed cooperation in key areas including health, pharmaceuticals, climate action, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
India and Barbados share friendly bilateral ties reinforced by their Commonwealth membership, common language and cultural links, including a shared enthusiasm for cricket. The two nations also collaborate actively in multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Barbados has expressed support for India’s bid for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.
