Hyderabad: Two persons have been arrested for alleged voyeurism in the girl’s hostel of CMR Engineering College at Medchal near Hyderabad.
The arrested have been identified as mess workers Nanda Kishore Kumar (20) and Govind Kumar (20), both natives of Bihar. It has been established that the two accused targeted the hostel girls when they used the washrooms, according to a release from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
“Kishore and Govind were staying near the girl’s hostel building and regularly peeping into the ladies washroom of the college students. The girls informed about the incident to the wardens who did not serious follow up the matter,” Telangana Today reported, quoting Medchal Inspector, A Satyanarayana.
This followed protests on January 1 and 2 by female students over the incident and a subsequent police case against seven individuals, including principal V Anatha Narayana (52), director Madireddy Janga Reddy (56) and chairman Chamakura Gopal Reddy for allegedly trying to hush up the issue to protect the reputation of the college.
Police have also booked KV Dhanalaxmi (64) and Allam Preethi Reddy (42), both hostel wardens at CMR Campus II, for their alleged complicity and failing to inform the police about it.
Abnormal behaviour of Dhanalaxmi, Preethi Reddy, Anantha Narayana, Janga Reddy and Gopal Reddy abetted Nanda Kishore Kumar and Govind Kumar to commit the offence, Deputy Commissioner of Police N Koti Reddy was quoted as saying.
The case was registered under Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 77 (voyeurism), 125 (Endangering the personal safety or human life of others through negligence or rashness, 49 (abetment) 239 (intentionally withholding information about a crime) and section 11 (sexual harassment) R/w 12, 16 and 17 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) ACT.
Further investigation is underway, reports added.
